In the Trinity, you have a completely different God from all other gods. With the Trinity, we’re talking about the Father eternally loving his Son by the Spirit. Now, just imagine if God was a single person; if he’d been all alone; if he were not a Father eternally having a relationship with his Son. If that were him, well, then for eternity, he wouldn’t know what love is. He wouldn’t know what fellowship is. If he were a single person, then you couldn’t say God is love; and that changes everything. He would be a God who wouldn’t have fellowship to share with us. He would be a God who would not know what fellowship is; would he know how to be gracious? Would he know how to love others? If God is not Trinity, I think I’d fear God only—I just couldn’t find my heart won to him.
